8 Foreign Language Scholarships (December 2025)

The purpose of the Carson Scholars is to recognize students who demonstrate academic excellence and commitment to the community. Applicants must be nominated by their school. They must be in grades 4 through 11 and have a GPA of 3.75 or higher in English, reading, language arts, math, science, social studies and foreign language. They must have participated in some form of voluntary community service beyond what is required by their school. Scholarship recipients must attend a four-year college or university upon graduation to receive funds.

The purpose of the James R. Hodgins Memorial Scholarship is to assist students in the Isabella County area. Applicants must be graduating seniors from Mt. Pleasant High School, Sacred Heart Academy, Beal City High School, or Shepherd High School who successfully completed college preparatory classes in English or at least three years of foreign language. Preference will be given to applicants planning to pursue a teaching degree.

The purpose of the George F. Tanner Memorial Scholarship is to encourage students who are graduates of a North or South Decatur high school in their pursuit of an education in a foreign language and/or teaching. Students must be residents of Indiana and must at least a 2.5 GPA. Selection is based on the overall strength of the application.

The purpose of the Martin Family Scholarship is to assist students in Erie County. Applicants must be graduating seniors from Erie County high schools who have a minimum 3.0 GPA and financial need. Students must have successfully completed two years of a foreign language, participated in a school-sanctioned sport, and in at least one club or organization. Preference will be given to students attending college or university in Western Pennsylvania.

The purpose of the Edward Arciniega Scholarship is to assist students in the Northern Nevada area. Applicants must be graduating seniors from Churchill County High School, Charter School or from a Churchill County Home-school program, intending to study at a two- or four-year college, having studied a foreign language for at least four years. Students must demonstrate an aptitude for language and academic accomplishment.

The purpose of the Student Translation Award is to encourage translation projects by students. Applicants must be graduate or undergraduate students or a group of students attending an accredited U.S. college or university. The project should have post-grant results such as a publication, conference presentation or teaching material. Computer-assisted translations, dissertations and theses are not eligible, and students who are already published translators are not eligible. Translations must be from a foreign language into English. Preference is given to students who have been or are currently enrolled in translator training programs. There is a limit of one entry per student. Applicants should submit entry forms, statements of purpose, letter of recommendation, translation sample with corresponding source-language text, proof of permission to publish from copyright holder and sample outline or other material demonstrating the nature of the work (if the project is not a translation).

The purpose of the Mary Thurmaier Foreign Language Scholarship is to support students in Wisconsin interested in studying foreign language. Applicants must be graduating seniors of Stevens Point Area Senior High who have studied at least four years of one foreign language while in middle school and/or high school and have a minimum GPA of 3.3. Special consideration may be given to students who are interested in Chinese or Arabic. Selection is based on the strength of the overall application.

The purpose of the Genevieve Gonzalez Memorial Scholarship Fund is to assist students in the Paso Del Norte area. Applicants must be El Paso Independent School District students who are considering majoring in a foreign language or culture.
