10 Physical Education Scholarships (May 2026)

The purpose of the Ruth Abernathy Presidential Scholarship is to honor deserving students in the areas of health, physical education, recreation and dance. Applicants must be members of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD), but they may join when applying and must major in health, physical education, recreation or dance. Undergraduate applicants must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and have junior or senior status when applying. Graduate applicants must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and have completed one semester of full-time study. Selection is based on scholastic achievement, leadership, community service and character.

The purpose of the Guido's Fresh Marketplace Scholarship Fund is to assist students in the Berkshire Taconic area. Applicants must be graduating seniors of a high school in Berkshire County who are entering their first year of a two-year or four-year regionally accredited college or university to pursue studies in physical education, health and wellness, or business studies.

The purpose of the CTAHPERD Gibson-Laemel Scholarship is to support students majoring in areas related to physical education. Applicants must be Connecticut students who have declared a major in health, physical education, recreation or dance. Students must be college juniors or seniors, maintain a GPA of 2.7 or higher and be CTAHPERD members.

The purpose of the Jean Lee/Jeff Marvin Collegiate Scholarships is to aid students pursuing degrees in physical education-related fields. Applicants must be attending an Indiana college or university and be upcoming juniors or seniors who are majoring in health education, physical education, recreation, dance education or allied areas.

The purpose of the Maple Flooring Manufacturers Association Scholarship is to support students pursuing a higher education at a secondary, advanced or trade school with a focus on the sports flooring business. Applicants must be legal residents of the U.S. attending college in the United States. Students must write a 500-word essay and be studying in one of the following fields: architecture, athletic administration, athletics, boiler inspection training, biological conservation, bio-mechanical sciences, building construction, civil engineering, coaching, commercial driving schools, construction sciences or management, dance education, forest science, forestry studies, engineering technology, environmental resource management, exercise science, industrial technology schools, kinesiology, LEED training or certification, mechanic schools, mechanical drafting, machine technologies, natural resources / conservation, physical administration, physical education, physical rehabilitation or therapy, recreation and park administration, small engine repair schools, sports and fitness management, survey schools, trucking schools or wood sciences.

The purpose of the Ann Doherty Helion '73 and John G. Helion '71 Scholarship is to help students who attend or are planning to attend SUNY Cortland. Applicants must be sophomores, juniors or seniors in good academic standing at SUNY Cortland who are enrolled full-time and are majoring in physical education or childhood/early childhood education. Students must have demonstrated financial need as per FAFSA.

The purpose of the Mary Benevento/CTAHPERD Scholarship is to aid Connecticut students who are planning to pursue higher education in school health teaching, physical education, recreation or dance. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and Connecticut residents. They must be high school seniors who are planning to pursue a bachelor's degree in school health teaching, physical education, recreation or dance at an accredited Connecticut postsecondary institution. Selection is based on academic merit, professional potential and character.

The purpose of the Central High School Scholarship for Teacher Education is to support graduates of Davenport Central High School who plan to enroll in an education program. Applicants must have a GPA of at least 2.0. Those who are interested in teaching Physical Education will be given preference.

The purpose of the Michael Moody Fitness Scholarship is to support students seeking a career in health and fitness related fields. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal residents and be a current high school senior, undergraduate or graduate level student planning on enrolling in an accredited college or university full-time in the upcoming school year. Students should be able to demonstrate that they have outstanding achievement in school, as well as participation and leadership in school activities and work experience. Applicants should be pursuing a degree in one of the following: athletic training, personal training, physical education teaching and coaching, health and physical fitness, exercise science, sports and recreation management, health sciences or another related field.

The purpose of the Illinois Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Scholarships is to support physical education students. Applicants must be full-time junior or senior level undergraduate students at colleges or universities in Illinois and must major in health, physical education, recreation or dance. Students must have been members of IAHPERD since December 1 of the previous year and may receive this award no more than twice.
