The Central New Mexico – Pioneers Scholarship (Est. 2004) is a Engineering, $2,000+, and renewable award for full-time students in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, and more. The section received its charter on December 5, 1988. A small group of SWE members living and working in the area took the initiative and decided to pursue the creation of a new SWE section in central New Mexico. The section began as a subsection (serving the Albuquerque area) of the Southwest Section based in Phoenix, Arizona. The Central New Mexico Section has two endowed SWE scholarships. The SWE Central New Mexico - Pioneers Scholarship was established in 2004. This yearly scholarship (originally was $1,500) is awarded to a sophomore, junior, or senior who is a US citizen and SWE member. Applicants must attend a university located in New Mexico: New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, New Mexico State University, University of New Mexico. Renewable for 3 years. Availability dependent upon renewal. The SWE Central New Mexico - Reentry Scholarship was established in 2005. This yearly scholarship (originally was $1,500) is awarded to reentry and nontraditional students who are US citizens and SWE members. Applicants must attend a university located in New Mexico: New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, New Mexico State University, University of New Mexico. Reentry for sophomore, junior, senior, graduate.
