The Dunham Fund Scholarship for EDUCATION is a $5,000+, merit-based, and renewable award for full-time students in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, and more. The Dunham Fund Scholarship for Education provides financial support for North Central College students from the greater Aurora area who are majoring in education and have aspirations to teach in the Aurora community. Open to incoming new and continuing students who meet the criteria. Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible for this scholarship the applicant must be a resident of the Dunham Fund service area (bounded on the north by Illinois State Route 38; on the south by U.S. Route 34; on the east by Illinois State Route 59 and on the west by Illinois State Route 47). In addition, applicants must be: A full-time student working toward attainment of a degree in education and have a Desire to be an elementary or secondary education teacher, with Hopes of teaching in Aurora Preferred SAT score of 1000 or higher Minimum cumulative GPA in high school of 3.0 required (or for Transfer students, minimum cumulative GPA in College of 3.0) Participation is an essential and required part of this scholarship; participation includes Dunham Scholars meetings; annual luncheon with the Dunham Fund Board; completing required Dunham Scholar job shadows, field experiences, residency (student teaching) at Aurora schools; and volunteer experiences in the Aurora community. RENEWAL Students currently receiving the Dunham Fund Scholarship for Education do not need to re-apply every year. Renewal will be considered based on the student continuing to meet the criteria for the scholarship and based on the student’s past and continued participation in the program. IN ADDITION, the student who is under consideration for renewal also needs to be in good standing with the Office of Student Affairs at North Central, progressing toward a degree in Education by meeting gateway competencies, and in good standing with the Department of Education. A Letter of Commitment is requested each academic year that the scholarship is received. Please provide a short essay (300-400 words) covering the following two questions: Why do you want to become a teacher? What would it mean to you to be able to teach at a school in Aurora?
