When applying for scholarships, you should NEVER have to pay to apply. You should also NEVER have to provide sensitive personal information like your Social Security Number (SSN). If membership is required to apply, the membership should ALWAYS BE FREE. Basically, NEVER PAY FOR ANYTHING. Those are scams! Some scholarships may ask for your address or proof of enrollment. That's fine, but always verify you're actually talking to the scholarship provider and not an imposter. Scams in scholarships are rampant, be careful! When clicking on the button to apply, you will leave Scholarships That Work and go to the application page for that organization outside this site. The Ferne Miller Memorial Research Scholarship is a Number Theory, $1,000+, essay-based, and renewable award for full-time students in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, and more. Ferne Miller completed her undergraduate work at UCLA in 1985. Ferne immediately began her graduate studies at CSPP-San Diego that same year. Before the end of her second year at CSPP, she was diagnosed for the second time in her short life with cancer. Tragically the Hodgkin's disease, which she had battled earlier in her life, had returned. While continuing her studies at CSPP, Ferne took her chemotherapy treatments and worked at The Escondido Youth Encounter where she was considered a wonderful psychologist. Continuing her classes to the end, Ferne succumbed to the disease in October of 1987. In memory of Ferne and her dedication to psychology, her parents Dr. Edward and Mrs. Leslea Miller, other family members and friends established the Ferne Miller Memorial Research Fund. Originally, this scholarship was for students conducting research in the area of psychosocial oncology, including projects that study how psychological and environmental factors may affect the etiology, disease course and adaptation to cancer and other terminal diseases, however, the Miller Family has decided to broaden the focus to support dissertations across the spectrum of clinical psychology. The Ferne Miller Memorial Research Scholarship is awarded to a CSPP-San Diego Clinical Psychology PhD or PsyD student who was obtained approval for their dissertation proposal.
