The Health Careers Opportunity Program Scholarship is a $3,500+ and merit-based award in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, and more. Program and Course Description: MSU Denver’s Healthcare Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP) will improve culturally- responsive access to care by diversifying Colorado’s health workforce through effective mentoring. Through the Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP) Academy, MSU Denver has developed two structured programs: the National Ambassadors Program (MSU Denver Ambassadors) and an Adult/Non-Traditional Program (MSU Denver Non-Traditional Program) for veterans and other adult students. The two proposed programs will be housed within MSU Denver’s Health Institute, which is under the College of Professional Studies. The program will empower diverse undergraduate students who come from underrepresented economic and education backgrounds to succeed in the pre-health/ allied health programs. HCOP Program and Course Requirements: • Junior standing or senior standing for transfer students only • Must be currently enrolled and in good academic standing at MSU Denver • 2.5 GPA or higher (please include an unofficial copy of current academic transcript) • Must be prepared to submit background check documentation upon acceptance into the program HCOP Program Course Objectives • Increase student GPA • Increase student retention rates • Increase student graduation rates • Facilitate placement in health-related career fields The following activities will support the program course objectives: • Financial assistance through scholarships and stipends • Advising, curricula/ training, mentoring and life coaching opportunities • Team-building activities to build social capital • Wellness, life balance and stress reduction activities (lifestyle medicine)
