The Milestone Bridge Builder Scholarship II is a $1,000+, merit-based, essay-based, and renewable award in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, and more. The Milestone Bridge Builder Scholarship is established to honor Alexander and Cora (Blanton) Miles. Alex and Cora who traveled from Cumberland, Virgina to Baltimore in 1919 and settled in East Baltimore with their two children, Elwood and Rebecca. Five children: James Walter, Francel, Roosevelt, Clarence, Pearline and George were born in Baltimore. This scholarship represents the Miles family appreciation and gratitude to Paul Laurence Dunbar High School and the National Academy Foundation. It allows, preferably, first generation higher education for students to attend a community college or an accredited trade school.
